About the Artist

Kristine Heggem Brokstad (b. 1994), creating under the artist name Broksart, is a Norwegian fine art painter and political scientist living and working in Detroit, United States. Raised among the forests, fjords, and mountains of Northern Europe, her paintings move between the abstract and the organic, shaped by a lifelong attention to the patterns and textures of the natural world. Classically trained in figurative Renaissance techniques, her work is built on a foundation of patient, exacting craft. In recent years she has developed a distinctive language of her own: hundreds of small, knife-painted shapes accumulate across the canvas like tessera in an ancient mosaic, each petal-like mark a fragment of a larger whole, inviting the viewer to wander, linger, and find their own meaning in the shifting surface. Her academic studies in political science, economics, philosophy, and psychology speak to a restless intellectual curiosity that runs parallel to her artistic practice. Beyond the canvas, she writes original music and performs on guitar, piano, and voice.
